Natural Dyeing Workshop: INDIGO & SHIBORI

Join the creative natural indigo dyeing workshop and discover one of the oldest and most magical dyeing worlds.

This is an inspiring, creative, and somewhat magical experience where blue color is born naturally – from plants, a handmade process, and patience. During the workshop, we will dye different natural fabrics and create unique textile samples, each of which will be distinctive and unique.

💙 During this workshop, you will learn about the history of natural indigo and its use in textiles for thousands of years.

💙 You will try the shibori technique – a Japanese method of folding, binding, and pattern creation.

💙 We will dye natural fabrics, such as cotton, linen, or silk.

💙 Perfect for beginners who want to explore natural dyeing and create their own unique blue textile samples.

💙 Participants aged 12 and up.

A creative, relaxing, and highly engaging experience where textiles, tradition, color, and nature meet.

This is a great choice if you want to disconnect from everyday life for a while, slow down, and immerse yourself in the natural creative process 💙 We also highly encourage you to come with friends or family – creating together is even more fun and cozy. And if you plan to come with a larger group, we will gladly offer a group discount.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

🌱 All essential dyeing supplies, textile samples, and dyes needed for the workshop

🌱 Transport to the dyeing studio and back

🌱 Lunch, hot drinks, soft drinks, cookies for snacks

🌱  You can also bring your own textile item or fabric – for example, a silk scarf, t-shirt, blouse, or other accessory that you can dye free of charge. Important: the fabric should be white or natural (undyed) color and made of natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or silk, and small in size, e.g., a scarf or t-shirt.

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED

💡 Optionally - you can purchase and dye a larger fabric piece during the workshop, which you can later use for your unique project. We can offer organic materials such as cotton, silk, and wool. The price will depend on the desired amount of material and color – the additional amount of dye pigment required.

About the lecturer

The workshops are led by Elzė van der Hart, founder of NOORD LOOM and textile and sustainable fashion designer.

With over 15 years of experience in the fashion industry, Elzė shares not only technical knowledge but also a broader perspective on fashion – as a craft, creativity, and conscious choice.

These workshops are part of the broader NOORD LOOM vision – to inspire slower, more responsible, and nature-closer creation, continuing the traditions of color masters in a modern context.

PROGRAM

Full workshop duration, including travel and lunch - approximately 6-7 hours. Please plan for 10:00 AM to 4-5:00 PM.

10:00 AM We meet at Noord Loom studio in Vilnius, Klaipėdos g. 2. We will have a cup of coffee, get acquainted with the workshop group, and look forward to the inspiring day ahead - the world of INDIGO and SHIBORI.

10:30 AM We depart for the Noord Loom textile dyeing studio, located in Eiliokiškės, by Lake Karvys - a short 35 km journey - transport will be provided, but you can also travel by your own car.

11:15 AM - 3:15 PM Workshop - we will dye textiles with natural INDIGO dyes, and get acquainted with the SHIBORI pattern technique. Around 1:00 PM we will have lunch - we will prepare fresh bread, spreads, Dutch cheese, vegetables, coffee or tea, and soft drinks. If you wish or have special needs, you can also bring your own lunch.

3:15 PM - 4:00 PM Depending on the progress of the workshop and the sometimes unpredictable nature of INDIGO... :-) we head back to Vilnius. Please plan to return to the studio at Klaipėdos g. 2 between 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
